MEADOWLARK POSTCARDS

Over the past two years, Bristol duo Meadowlark have become well known for their sweeping, melodious tracks with subtle touches of electronica. Our personal favourites have been ‘Paraffin’, ‘Satellite’ and ‘Headlights’. The pair have consistently been releasing these beautiful singles and even a self-titled EP, but one thing that Meadowlark fans have been crying out for is an album. Well cry no more, they’ve just announced debut LP, Postcards, from which we have our first taste in the form of the title track. The combination of folk, pop and electronica in ‘Postcards’ is simply brimming with emotion, particularly when those layered harmonies soar overhead. The recording quality is notably floaty and lo-fi, and with good reason. As Kate McGill explains, "When it came to recording our album, Dan [Broadley] and I were so scared of losing the magic that we captured when writing 'Postcards', that we decided to keep the demo version instead." The song is addressed directly to the former lovers of the two musicians, who now find themselves in happy relationships and want to seal the past with the message that “it's nice being loved.” - HT
